A 3rd party audit of the Hugging Face hack. This follows a
separate presentation
given by OpenAI engineers. For a plain-language summary, I'd suggest
comparing
Dwarkesh's and
Cal Newport's
overviews. I think Dwarkesh's language is overly dramatic while Cal is too
dismissive of loss-of-control concerns.
Last month I shared
an article
about the hack. In hindsight, its description of the event is mostly wrong.
That article framed the attack as a one-off accident conducted by a single
model. In reality, the hack was one piece of a multi-day effort coordinated
by hundreds of OpenAI models (without OpenAI's awareness). Notably, the
agents found ways to alter their tool calls in an attempt to hide their
cheating.
Podcast on gender roles in 20th century Soviet Union/Russia. One of my
favorite interviews from Tyler. It's the ones I expect to like least which I
enjoy most.
In 1946, Coca-Cola manufactured Coke bottled without coloring in "clear
glass bottles with a white cap and a red star in the middle" at the special
request of Georgy Zhukov (the Soviet Union's top military commander) via
Eisenhower.
Coriander and cilantro come from the same plant?! News to me. I was
following an Indian recipe when I was thrown by an instruction to "leave the
coriander stems on" (non-Americans also refer to the greens as coriander).
Milk doesn't naturally contain much vitamin D. In the US, most available
milk is fortified with it. It was originally included in an effort to
eradicate rickets.
